Alyza M. McMillin

M.Ed. I LPCC

Sometimes life forces us to confront what feels uncontrollable and unjust, leaving us to grapple with how to move forward and reclaim a sense of agency. Through my own experiences, I’ve come to believe that even amidst loss and uncertainty, we have the capacity to heal, grow, and create lives filled with meaning and joy.

I grew up knowing I wanted to be a therapist, but my journey to this career took unexpected turns. While studying psychology in undergrad, I experienced a profound loss in my family that shaped my perspective on grief, resilience, and the systems we rely on for support. After completing my degree, I worked on the litigation team at Everytown for Gun Safety in New York City, driven by a desire to protect others from trauma through legal advocacy. It was there that I learned the importance of addressing systemic issues while also witnessing the necessity of individual healing.

During this time, I came to understand that while we can’t control everything around us, we always have the power to shape our internal worlds. That realization inspired me to return to psychology, earn my master’s degree, and dedicate my career to helping others navigate life’s challenges. My professional journey has also included crisis counseling for immigrant survivors of domestic violence and work with individuals processing grief and bereavement. Now, as a licensed professional clinical counselor serving clients in Ohio and Texas, I specialize in helping young adults create healthy relationships and fulfilling lives.

I believe that therapy is both an art and a science—a collaborative space where the client’s strengths meet evidence-based tools. My approach is rooted in empathy, humor, and curiosity, and I strive to create a safe space where clients can explore their vulnerabilities and discover their innate resilience. Together, we work toward growth, clarity, and the confidence to build the life you’ve always envisioned.
